Nacre is a mobile app that seafarers will use in order tobepersonally authenticated and to prove authenticity of themaritimetraining certificates they possess. More specifically,during thecrewing process the seafarer arrives at the crewingoffice andneeds to first be authenticated and then checked forthecertificates they possess. If the seafarers do not possestheappropriate certificates they cannot serve on a specificship.There exists a problem of forgeries of such trainingcertificatesand a developed blockchain-based solution, that theNacre app ispart of, tries to mitigate this. The Nacre app has thefollowingfunctionalities: 1. The seafarer logs in and navigates tothe tab“My certificates”. Under this tab the list of thecertificates thathave been issued to the person logged in the appare displayed.These certificates are immutable and reside on aPrivateblockchain. The crewing office can thus verify that thedisplayedcertificates under the “My Certificates” tab are validandauthentic. 2. When the seafarer appears at the crewing officetheyalso need to prove their identity. In order to achieve thistheadmin at the crewing office using a separate web applicationissuesa QR code challenge. The seafarer, then selects the tab“Proof ofIdentity” and clicks the “Scan Challenge” button. Themobile phonecamera turns on and the seafarer scans the QR codedisplayed on thescreen of the admin. The seafarer will be notifiedabout the statusof the Challenge Response and informed if theiridentify wasverified or not. 3. A support tab is also available incase theuser encounters any problems.
